Teen Curatorial Program

Urbano’s Teen Visual Art, Spoken Word, Film, and Graphic Design Curators work with professional artists in Urbano's studio and gallery from October - April, creating new artwork and performance and selecting works to perform or display for the public.

The Teen Curators meet weekly during the school year to develop their own artwork, meet with local artists and professional curators, and research innovative approaches to presenting work that expresses an authentic teen perspective. Yearly, the Teen Curators' events bring more than 1,000 audience members to Urbano’s studios and other venues around the city. New Teen Curators are recruited at the beginning of the school year, and receive a stipend for participation.

Urbano is no longer accepting Teen Curatorial applications for the 2010 - 2011 school year.

Public Art for Social Change is open to students who have been accepted to one of the four core Teen Curatorial Groups. Teen Film Curators

Coordinator: Gerald Jimenez
The Teen Film Curators learn special effects and editing techniques, create collaborative films, and critically analyze films by teens and adults. Teen Film Curators direct the YouthFusion Film Series, highlighting film/video work by teens from across Boston and beyond.

Teen Spoken Word Curators

Coordinators: Ayano Strickland and DeAnna Pellecchia
The Teen Spoken Word Curators work with professional performers to explore a range of performance techniques, focusing on creating spoken word poetry and performance art. Spoken Word Curators produce and host a series of public open mic nights at Urbano.

Teen Visual Art Curators
